There are only a few options available to you if your kitchen is too small. If you cannot physically make your kitchen larger by remodeling, you will need to become creative. Instead of refusing to buy the appliances that will make your life easier, you can purchase items that do not take up a lot of needed floor space. One of these appliances is a space saving dishwasher. They are smaller than the normal size and most of these space saving models fit under the kitchen sink. This makes them much smaller than the normal sized ones which are about the size of a kitchen cabinet.



The small size looks very appealing for use in the tiny kitchens of condos and apartments. It is important to note that you will be able to place only 10 or so glasses on the top shelf and the clearance between the bottom and top shelves is much less than in a standard dishwasher. What this means is that the very large plates that many people use today will not fit in the lower shelf. Or they will hit against the top shelf.



However, if you are in a tight spot for space in your kitchen, a space saving dishwasher could be the answer to all of your problems. It stands to reason that if you have a kitchen this small, it is not a family dwelling, so the number of dishes you will need to load at any given time is much less than those of a 4-member family. However, you might need to scale down the sizes of your dishes.

This concession is a small thing to enable you to have the use of a dishwasher. Most people would agree that it is better to get smaller-sized dishes than to do without a dishwasher. The fact that manufacturers have even made one this small speaks to the need of people who live in smaller places who are willing to trade-off the capacity for the convenience.

The advantage to space saving appliances is that even in the smallest of areas one can have the most updated appliances available. The first appliance of this type that comes to mind, is the washer-dryer combo which was available in mobile homes for many years. As mobile homes became larger over time, they began to allow for more space to accommodate the standard sizes of appliances. These days condominiums are becoming more popular with retired individuals. Because many of these individuals live alone due to one spouse being deceased, we see that the square footage of these condos has decreased. There are smaller and smaller places available for the single retired elderly folks, making the kitchens and laundry areas smaller.
